We considered installing a solar photovoltaic system for our residential home, a new construction, for many months. It seemed the clear choice for the environment and for our children's future. A more difficult decision involved the so-called "break-even" financial point. Therefore we requested three proposals from three different solar companies and allowed each company to provide what they believed was the best system.
Photovoltaic systems are designed to harness the energy of the sun and transform it into usable electricity. After the initial purchase cost of your solar system, ten years from now, the solar energy you are collecting at your own home will still be free, and meanwhile prices for fossil fuels rise higher and higher. As an added bonus, the cost of a photovoltaic system can be lowered by as much as 60 percent thanks to government rebates and tax credits. These savings generally cover more than half of the costs, while the other half is easily refunded over time by the money you save on electric bills. Not only that but you will also be able to enjoy the personal satisfaction of being the first on the block to own a solar energy system, enjoying a new technology, and helping to create the clean and renewable environment.
How does it work?
A photovoltaic system operates by attracting sunlight to the solar photovoltaic modules, at which point it is converted into electricity. Battery Back-Up System

During the day when the solar system is in production it supplies power to the residence and the battery-bank. The batteries are kept charged until the night comes, when the solar system is not in production.
